16 months after being fired as England’s managing director following their 4-0 loss in the 2021–22 Ashes series. Ashley Giles will make a comeback to professional cricket as Worcestershire’s new chief executive.

Ashley Giles was mentioned when the county put out a job listing for a director of cricket last year. But he will start in the position on July 3. Since 2019, the position has been vacant since chair Fanos Hira actively participates in the management of the club.

Josh Tongue, a recent England Test debutant who has drawn interest from Lancashire, is one of several key young players whose contracts expire this year. Worcestershire will hope that Giles’ hiring indicates their desire to those who are considering leaving.
