CSK has paid top dollar for some of the best players in the IPL. In 2008, the team paid $1.5 million for MS Dhoni, who was the captain of the Indian limited-overs team at the time. Until 2009, when the Super Kings signed English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff for $1.55 million, Dhoni was the most expensive player in the IPL.
