In September 2010 at the age of 18, Taylor made his Bristol debut against Derbyshire. In a defeat by 54 runs for Gloucestershire, Taylor made 6 and 3 at bat but did not bowl.  Taylor’s first first-class wicket came in the following match against Surrey when he clean-bowled England international Chris Tremlett for 4 runs while bowling four overs in the first innings. He once again struggled with the bat, scoring just 0 and 2, and he only bowled one over in Surrey’s second innings. Taylor played Somerset in Taunton the following year in his List A debut. In a forgettable one-day debut, he scored two runs with the bat and bowled three overs that were scored for 29 runs.
